Empowering Student Entrepreneurs: M-C3 Sparks Community Change and Innovation

Cameron Lockrey, a student at Calvin University, exemplifies the transformative impact of the Michigan Campus Community Challenge (M-C3) scholarship competition. Through his app, Kickback, Cameron is tackling a common need: connecting individuals needing tasks done, like snow shoveling, with those willing to complete them. Task-posters name their price, taskers deliver, and Kickback facilitates the transaction with a minimal 5% fee. His innovative idea earned him a $6,000 scholarship through the M-C3 competition, securing third place. Cameron’s success didn’t stop there; he’s also received awards from entrepreneurial competitions like MWest Challenge, 5×5 Night, and Calvin’s PitchUp competition hosted by Calvin Startup Garage, totaling over $12,000 to advance his vision.

M-C3 offers students like Cameron a platform to transform their ideas into impactful realities while earning significant scholarships. Open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students, the program challenges participants to create solutions that enhance Michigan communities, partner with organizations, or introduce innovative products and services. Since 2012, over 330 participants have been supported with nearly $325,000 in scholarships and stipends. With streamlined applications, enhanced mentorship opportunities, and exposure to prominent judges, M-C3 continues to drive social and entrepreneurial innovation.
