President’s Leadership Institute
The President’s Leadership Institute (PLI) is a program led personally by Olivet’s president, Dr. Steven Corey. PLI’s partnership with Today’s Leader, a management consultant company specializing in business coaching and professional development, allows students to work and directly collaborate with experienced senior executive leadership through a unique program to promote leadership and enable them to become future professional leaders.
Women’s Leadership Institute
As Michigan’s first college to admit women, the Women’s Leadership Institute Keyes-Barber-Benedict Scholars Program at The University of Olivet is named after the three women of Olivet’s first graduating class. Students chosen for this program will earn a scholarship, create professional relationships with distinguished women leaders, and participate in development exercises for their personal and professional lives.
Olivet Direct!
The University of Olivet has partnered with several local high schools and community colleges to streamline admission into the university and make education affordable by offering reduced, or even free tuition. Students who attend partner institutions can apply to Olivet Direct! to determine if they are eligible.

The Career and Leadership Development Center provides students and alumni with the resources to enter the “real world” with the confidence and skills to thrive in their chosen career and make an impact in their community.

Students
Youssef El-Sayed is a 2016 graduate of our criminal justice program. He earned his master’s degree in cyber security and information assurance at The University of Detroit Mercy. In 2018, he joined DTE energy as a NERC compliance/cyber security analyst. In September 2023, he joined Avangrid as their Manager-Offshore wind reliability assurance specialist with a primary focus on cybersecurity and NERC compliance.
Nicole Durga earned her BA in biology with a pre-med physical therapy interest in 2009. She has experience in healthcare, project design, career development, management, learning and development, and quality assurance and process improvement. She currently serves as the Regional Outcomes Director at Mary Free Bed in Grand Rapids, MI.
Brad Thomas is a 2019 business administration graduate with experience in financial services, wealth management, and financial planning. He currently works in Grand Rapids, MI at JP Morgan’s Private Bank. He partners with business owners, non-profits, and institutions for wealth management and banking needs.
Rod Sanders graduated in 2008 with a degree in Insurance and Risk Management. He has experience in technology and mid-market business development, including IT, risk management, and cybersecurity. When asked why students should pursue a career in his industry, Rod states, “Pursuing a major and a career in insurance and risk management offers an exciting and dynamic path with numerous compelling reasons for students to consider. This includes ever-evolving challenges, global impact, high demand for talent, diverse career options, continuous learning, and impact on society.”
