Students Explore Careers in Sports: Virtual Session with Manchester United Executive

Michigan Career Connect recently hosted its third Virtual Executive-in-Residence (VEIR) session, further expanding our range of topics. This session was led by Patrick Jenkinson, the Commercial Director for Venue and E-commerce at Manchester United.

Students from six campuses registered for the session, demonstrating the strong interest in the sports industry. Mr. Jenkinson shared his career journey, which began in finance. His diverse experiences across different industries equipped him with the skills necessary to thrive in the sports world. By describing a typical day in his role, he highlighted that every day looks different. He also emphasized that the sports industry is highly volatile, and that persistence is required to succeed, regardless of the team’s performance.

This successful session continued the theme of encouraging students to pursue careers in competitive, hard-to-reach fields. From criminal justice to Hollywood to sports, professionals have shared the challenges they faced breaking into these industries. Michigan Career Connect hopes to empower students to pursue their career goals, even if they seem daunting. We hope sessions like these motivate students to pursue their passions and build the skills needed for future success.
